Checking out Drupal 7 RC2

So... after a long absence, I am back to my quest of learning Drupal in order to rebuild ywam.ru with the new YWAM Russia Communication Team "ComRad." I've been anxiously keeping my eye on the progress of Drupal 7 and am excited to see that it has reached it's second Release Candidate version! I set up a local WAMPServer 64 on my computer and installed Drupal 7 RC2. I have to say that I am impressed with what I see so far. The administration section is beautifully integrated in lightbox like overlays. Two of my favorite new features are the ability to install and update modules right from within the site (no need to FTP new files to the server) and the ability to give permission to initiate update.php to users designated as administrators (no more logging out and back in whenever you want to update). I'm sure there are a lot of people out there playing with and testing Drupal 7, but not many of them are writing about it. I'm looking for new features and best-practices that will steer the way I build our next site. With the addition some new features to Drupal core, like fields (CCK), image handling, and automatic cron (poormanscron), some old modules and methods of doing things are outdated or deprecated. In particular I'l like to figure out if I'm supposed to wait for SWF Tools to come out with a 7.x release or if Embed is supposed to take its place. I found a few interesting articles that may be interesting for further reading: http://www.midwesternmac.com/blogs http://robknight.org.uk/blog/2010/12/re-launch-drupal-7
